runner's lament

Runner's Lament

I see people running by
but still I stand,
With a tear in my eye,
and dish towel in hand,
looking out the kitchen window,
Oh, how I long for my running shorts.

I left all of my running gear at home, thinking foolishly that I would not be able to run at all this winter. I got to camp and sure enough a couple of guys and one or two girls were running on a regular basis. They had a 5K mapped out along the bush roads and hit it nearly everyday after work.

Well if I felt a little left out then, talking to these people about running but not actually joining them, imagine how I feel now. Every half hour people are running by the house here. It's on a corner in a busy section just outside of town, but it's also on the way to the biking/hiking/walking/running trail which leads all over the place up here.

This time though, it's 15 degrees outside and had I known I'd still be here I would have brought my gear and whould be running. No, I'm too damn cheap to buy more running gear when I know I have gear at home. I'm also too damn cheap to have Maria send it to me.

The only thing that makes up for not running is the mini home gym they have set up in their basement. Mind you there's no treadmill or eliptical or heavy bag, but more than enough weight and dumbells to keep me occupied for now.

Until the day I finally snap and buy some running pants or shorts and shoes. But that might also be the day I finally snap and run amuck with a meat cleaver. Sometimes snapping is not a good thing.
