The Mask

After all the different oil field things I've done working for sooooo many different companies over the years out here, it's hard to believe it but today was the first time I've ever had to mask up and work in a H2S situation. It wasn't that bad except for me being told we wouldn't have to work under air, so I didn't bother to shave and almost couldn't get a seal on my mask, which would have prevented me from working on this site today. Not a good impression the first time you meet the new operators at a gas plant.
But anyway, I did get a positive seal (as compared to the bi-polar ones) Jesse and I did the job, replaced the glycol pump and got out of there for a 5 hour day, with 10 hours pay. I love double time Sundays, and time and a half Saturdays are great too. We got 11 hours of time and a half on Saturday. BC has the best labor laws for oil field workers anywhere.
But ya, another day, another job well done but more importantly another task I had not attempted before, completed quickly, safely and at a fiscal positive.

It's real late right now, just got of the phone with my girl, long and late tonight, but a real good talk, and I have work in 6 hours so I will leave you alone with your thoughts for now. Till then.

The Good The Bad and The Ugly.

Well we got the washin ma chine the other day and things are sparkling here now. Clean underwear all around. And some smiles too. It's a big one, it'll fit all my coveralls and work clothes in one load and almost all of my other clothes in another. Wicked.

Working on a crew truck now, twisting wrenches and maintaining 3 or 4 different oilfields for a coupla companies. The money is awesome, but I've only got 18 days until I up and leave for home. The job MAY be available when I get back, but we aren't sure yet. Where was this job three or four months ago? Things would be so much easier if I had of done this for the winter and spring too. Crap.

Saw a bear today on the roadside, just a little one, 2 or 3 years or so. And a deer laying down on a pile of dirt, weird stuff.

That's all I can be bothered to type today!

Ahhha, finally something new. A new cartoon and a daily at that. It was a little wide so I had to adjust the columns a teency weency bit, but it's all good now. Things fit and it's not too outta shape. At least not on my browser. Poor ol' biff sniff was brighter and added some color but went the way of the dinasaur a while back.
This cartoonstock toon is a daily instead of a weekly so it might make ME post a little more often than once a month, though I doubt it.

Down to my last pair of clean underwear, (I don't flip them over like some guys do) and either I have to make the trip to the laundramat or get out the scrub brush and use a little elbow grease. The washing machine went caput over a month ago and while we had wheels we were able to drive up to the laundry, but the thought of walking there with laundry and back with wet clothes really does nothing for me. I might end up cabbing it up there and back, add twenty dollars to the cost of the laundry....grrrr. I don't know what to do yet. I could go commando I guess, it is summer. With fresh breezes blowing by my knees.... ya.

Catching up

It seems I suck pretty bad at updating this thing. Well what am I supposed to do, with all the facebooking I've had to do lately. I mean where am I to find the time? Just not enough minutes in the day these days. I'll try and make up for it now.

19 years years since I graduated high school and somehow it all seems like yesterday thanks to facebook. (theres that word again) Kinda nice to see what everyone's been up to since our release date, well some went on to graduate at other places so they've only been really free for at the most 15 years, some even less I bet. (and some got married and will never be free...hehehe)

I had a long-ish conversation on Facebook with Michelle from my grad class about tattoos and it just sparked the fire I once had to become a walking piece of art, not really but....yeah pretty much. I have 4 or 5 more tats planned in the next few years and can't wait to get started on them.

Guess who has VIP seats to see Aerosmith in PEI, thats right! Me, my baby and 6 of our friends will be drunk on Aerosmith's wine and stuffed fat on their crab legs and veggie trays. I hope we get T-shirts too. It'll be a great weekend road trip, we got cottages booked 15 minutes outside of Charlottetown and Maria's mom is going to be the designated driver to and from the show. Going to be a great time. Look on Facebook for the pictures. (facebook, facebook, facebook!!)

Well, it's late and I'm tired and I'm really boring to read lately. My creativity is at an all time low, well I wrote a brand new song from scratch today. I just need 2 more lines and it's done. I started another new one and rewrote a few lines from an older one so I'm kinda drained right now. I might post them if I get the time to record them some time soon.

Till later on,

Skinnylickingood!!

Blogging Vs. Facebook

Facebook has become a seriously disruptive part of my life and I really can't explain why. Hi5 was never really this crazy and even Myspace, with all it's indie music and band sites really didn't turn my crank like this. I end up browsing around and looking at the same pictures over and over again somehow expecting them to change, but the thing is, sometimes they do.

New comments are added and profiles are updated and things seem to change pretty quickly - holding my interest not unlike a big screen TV with Swedish porn playing at a bachelor party. You just can't look away. Not for long anyway.

Well look away I did and for quite a bit of time now. I promised to be back on the blog and so I am. Let them come to me. They have my link on my facebook profile, so they should come to me, see how much fun it is to blog and join up, create their own blog and leave the facebook behind, making it succesively less appealing to me as more and more people drop out off 'The Book'.

Yeah I don't think that's going to happen.

I gotta go see if anyone poked me back yet today. But I will be back. I'll always be back. Because I love you more than I love them. That's right, I may stray but dosent it mean something that I keep coming back to my first and only love. You're damn right it does. I love sitting here in the dark, auxillary light from my web cam aimed at my keyboard, typing pointless drivel which probably won't be read. Why I don't know. But I do. And thats what matter's. Be back soon.

runner's lament

Runner's Lament

I see people running by
but still I stand,
With a tear in my eye,
and dish towel in hand,
looking out the kitchen window,
Oh, how I long for my running shorts.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I left all of my running gear at home, thinking foolishly that I would not be able to run at all this winter. I got to camp and sure enough a couple of guys and one or two girls were running on a regular basis. They had a 5K mapped out along the bush roads and hit it nearly everyday after work.
Well if I felt a little left out then, talking to these people about running but not actually joining them, imagine how I feel now. Every half hour people are running by the house here. It's on a corner in a busy section just outside of town, but it's also on the way to the biking/hiking/walking/running trail which leads all over the place up here.
This time though, it's 15 degrees outside and had I known I'd still be here I would have brought my gear and whould be running. No, I'm too damn cheap to buy more running gear when I know I have gear at home. I'm also too damn cheap to have Maria send it to me.
The only thing that makes up for not running is the mini home gym they have set up in their basement. Mind you there's no treadmill or eliptical or heavy bag, but more than enough weight and dumbells to keep me occupied for now.
Until the day I finally snap and buy some running pants or shorts and shoes. But that might also be the day I finally snap and run amuck with a meat cleaver. Sometimes snapping is not a good thing.
Look what I Found
True to my word, this time around at least, I have come back only days after my last post. Arent'cha proud of me. Yeah, OK. In my recent travels around the web I have found something out there in the wide world of Youtube that is some amazing talent with a guitar. Check out the video. I've been playing guitar over 20 years and I can't do any of this stuff, it wasn't in the manual when I started out.
And this one is pretty amazing too. I hope he gets paid for this cause it must've taken him sooooooo much time to figure these things out and practice to get them perfect.
Almost a full year
Well...it's been almost a full year since I said I was going to overhaul my blog and start over. A full year and I haven't put a single line down (hanging my head in shame). But ya know...I kinda like the design. After spending a year away from it, it's not that bad. So I will keep the design , and I will start blogging again, hopefully more often than once a year.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Facebook is all the rage nowadays huh. Went from one or two friends to having a ....bunch more than a few almost overnight. Seems like everybody who was on MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, Hi5, MySpace and every other social networking website out there hopped on over and created a page. It is different but it is also very much the same.
I'm not complaining about how many options we have to check up on our friends and see how popular they are, I like these sites. They take me away from reality for a little bit, catching up with old friends is great, seeing pictures of them and their kids is cool, and I'm on all of them somewhere. But this Facebook thing was cool enough to get Maria to sign up when she usually doesn't go for any internet activities as they cut into 'Grey's Anatomy' time. So Facebook wins for coolest soc-net site so far, but it'll never beat out blogging for actually being cool.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm in North Eastern B.C right now, missing home and wishing this wasn't such a shitty winter out here. Not as much work as last year and it'll take another while before I get to our house and home to my family. It will all work out in the end but the end is still weeks away. The light at the end of the tunnel is but a spec on the windshield of the motor scooter that carries me home to you. Faster, faster please.
